There are a variety of roof cleaning methods, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. From our years of experience cleaning roofs, Allied Services Company believes that power washing is one of the most effective ways to thoroughly clean your home. To learn more about pressure washing in Austin and other methods of cleaning your roof, read this article.

Low-Pressure Roof Cleaning Method
This method does not involve the application of toxic chemicals such as chlorine bleach and phosphates, which can pollute waterways and poison vegetation near your home. Because this system involves low-pressure rinsing, you do not have to worry about damaging the roof with high-pressure scrubbing or brushing. This method is safe and gentle, yet it is more expensive than other methods. Before arranging a low-pressure washing service, be sure it is guaranteed to eliminate algae, moss, and lichens.

Chlorine Bleach Cleaning Method
For a number of reasons, you may prefer that roof-cleaning specialists use a mixture of sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach) and trisodium phosphate (TSP) to clean your roof. This method is less expensive than others and saves time because the technicians simply spray it on the roof and wait for it to dry. They do not have to get on the roof to rinse or inspect it after applying the solution. With that said, this method can leave a strong chemical odor and may harm people and pets who are exposed to the chemicals or fumes. Bleach can cause damage to nearby plants, trees, shrubs, and grass; and phosphates can leak into waterways.

Pressure Washing Method
High-pressure power washing is an excellent method for removing roof stains. It can, however, cause permanent damage to shingles. Because high-pressure power washing sometimes leaves root systems behind, it may not be as effective as the other methods at removing algae. Ask your roof cleaning, contractor, to evaluate your roof for high-pressure power washing, as not all roofs benefit from this method of cleaning.
